Transilvania Film – 2012’s Retrospective

This year Transilvania Film released a total number of 12 titles in cinemas across Romania, 4 of them local productions or co-productions: The Phantom Father | Tatăl Fantomă with Marcel Iureș and Mihaela Sîrbu as main cast, Somewhere in Palilula | Undeva la Palilula – the cinematographic debut of the acclaimed theater director Silviu Purcărete, Aglaja | De ce fierbe copilul în mămăligă and the great box office succes (by the number of admissions) Of Snails and Men | Despre oameni și melci directed by Tudor Giurgiu with Monica Bîrlădeanu and Andi Vasluianu (distributed in partnership with Ro Image).

The first premiere of the year was La vida de los peces | Viața Peștilor directed by Matías Bize. Gianni e le donne | Gianni și femeile followed, a film directed by the well known filmmaker Gianni Di Gregorio, a charming Italian-style comedy with the Romanian actress Kristina Cepraga in cast.

Sin Retorno | Fără cale de-ntors – Transilvania Trophy winner at Transilvania International Film Festival in 2011, the movie-event We need to talk about Kevin | Trebuie să vorbim despre Kevin with Tilda Swinton, Skylab | Explozie în familie directed by Julie Delpy, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel | Hotelul Marigold with Judi Dench and Maggie Smith or Come as you are | Hasta la Vista awarded with People’s Choice Award at 2012 European Film Awards, are some of the other premieres in 2012.

In early November, Transilvania Film launched its first 3D film from the portfolio, the lovely Danish animation Ronal the Barbarian | Ronal Barbarul.

The 12 releases are represented by movies from Romania, Great Britain, Italy, Denmark, Belgium, Argentina, France, Chile and The United States of America.

For the first part of 2013 we are preparing the launch of two Romanian titles, Rocker, directed by Marian Crișan and the brand new Florin Piersic Jr.’s feature film – Killing Time. Also some international titles that will surely be appreciated by cunnoisseurs will be released next year.
