Bucharest, August 25th, 2011 – The end of August holds for the romanian public an unique cinematic experiment. Thus, starting 26th of August, they will have the chance to see in theaters Life in a Day, an original and touchy documentary consisting of videos posted by people all over the world, conducted by well acclaimed director Kevin Macdonald (Academy Awarded for One Day in September) and produced by Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down).
On 24th of July 2010, people across the Globe have shot a moment of their lifes and 80.000 clipss have been posted on YouTube. Cut of from over 4500 hours of footage, sent from 192 countries, Life in a Day was released on January 27th, 2011 live on youtube.com, in the same time with its world premiere on Sundance Film Festival. The documentary, the first of its kind, has impressed both audiences and critics, being perceived as a time capsule that tells future generations what it was like to be alive on 24 July 2010.
When asked if the idea of LIFE IN A DAY has stirred his imagination, Macdonald was curt. „I always want to give the public something new – something I have never seen before. And, of course, try something new myself. As filmmaker, knowing that you try something subject of failure, an experiment, is stimulating. And LIFE I NA DAY was a risky experiment.”
„The creation of the documentary inspired both my team and me. Every day we felt like we saw 20 different possible movies, with access in the privacy of many people„, said film director Macdonald.
Editing plays an important role in any film – especially in documentaries, and especially in LIFE IN A DAY where the material was so big. The experienced editor Joe Walker, whose filmography includes Steve McQueen‘s award-winning film, Hunger, Rowan Joffe‘s Brighton Rock and Harry Brown of Daniel Barber, amuses himself when asked why he agreed to participate in a project as ambitious as this – „Megalomania, most likely. I wanted to see if I am able to cope with such a monstrous quantity of raw material.„
